From new to old, we have it all !
The Bensen B-11 Gyrocopter was donated to the EAA by Dr. Igor Bensen, the aircraft’s designer. This aircraft had been a factory workhorse for many years and was a test bed for a number of Dr. Bensen’s design innovations. The B-11 model was originally designated the B-8M, but the numerous design changes mandated a new model number.
The aircraft is powered by a 72 hp McCullough two cycle engine. The Bensen Gyrocopter series has been built in greater numbers than any other type of homebuilt aircraft (as of 1972).

The Museum maintains an extremely varied airworthy fleet – everything from a powered parachute to a B-17 Flying Fortress! Many are operated to give ordinary people the chance to fly in historic aircraft, others are used to provide flight demonstrations or support special activities such as the EAA Young Eagles program.
More than 50 vintage airplanes are displayed in seven period hangars designed to take you back to aviation’s “Golden Age” of the 1920’s and 30’s. Fascinating displays include a tribute to the legendary air racer, designer, and builder Steve Wittman. Younger visitors will enjoy a play area with swings and pedal planes. For kids aged between 8 and 17, a free Young Eagles airplane flight may be available.
Most important of all, Pioneer Airport is a place to savor the sights and sounds of vintage flying machines in their “natural habitat.” Weather permitting, flights take place from Pioneer Airport’s grass runway every day during the season. You may also see demonstration flights from planes such as EAA’s replica of Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis and the stunning Pitcairn Mailwing biplane once flown by Howard Hughes.
