Gentlemen:
I
am interested in the e-mail of Davis-Mountain AFB, and whatever AFB unit which
might have surplus aircraft for sale to the private sector.
I
am particularly interested in the cargo-type, older aircraft, be it DC7´s,
and/o the early turboprop, corresponding-to-foreign models, such as the CL-44,
CANADAIR; or the Bristol, Britannia.
The purpose is to d-check
them and get them to fly again, for short haul cargo flights.
I
understand that AFB´s such as Davis-Mountain do have the facilities to hire
for complete 100% "d"-checks, including beam reinforcing, metal- fatigue
checks, shell replacements, avionics updating, controls, systems modernization,
etc.
I hope you can help me.
I have been
navigating on the internet, and I have found plenty of information such as USAF
organizations, airshows, etc., but not actual surplus contact points for older
aircraft purchase. I´d appreciate any light you may shred to me.
Regards,
J.C.F.BOWLES

C130's Carrier Landings
I am writing
you for information about the C130 Aircraft. My Father was a Crew Chief for many
years on this air craft. I recently watched a brief portion of a television show
in which a C130, I believe an E Series was landing and taking off from an Air
Craft Carrier. I told my Father of this and he was aware that it had been done
but in over 20 years in the USAF had never seen it. I am trying to find a tape
or photos of this and wonder if you are aware of any showing this event. I think
my Father would get a kick out of it.
If you could respond
to FTrofatter@EHR.ORG with any information
it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

I'm a 21-year-old
female, and I'm interested in possibly enlisting sometime in the fall of 1998.
I have a few questions about enlistment. If you or anyone else knows, what are
the height and weight restrictions for women entering the Air Force? I'm just
five feet tall, so I was worried that I might not meet the height requirement!
I heard that weight must be proportional to height, but I would like to know what
my requirements would be for my height. Also, I was curious as to how long I would
have to serve before I would be eligible for educational benefits.
If
you or anyone else can answer these questions, please feel free to email me at

Hello from London England,
I
tried to get to an Airforce email address, (using search engines), without success.
Having watched the BBC tonight, all I wanted to do was to tell the USAF what a
great idea it was to let Jeremy Clarkson loose in an F15. Over here, we DO support
the US militarily, and my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary on
BBC2 tonight.
I tried every combination of USAF and Pentagon
for this email, (and I am not an internet novice!), but it seems that it is impossible
to get a message direct to the powers that be.
Anyway, just
thought that the General who approved this PR exercise should be told that we
appreciated it over here.
Yours
Cybacat

yes, ok, I am the son of an RAF officer, but still.......)

To
Who May Answer My Question,
I have recently completed a semester
elective on aviation and came across the term "Fly-by-Wire" many times.
I have heard two stories concerning this term:
#1 The term
is referring to a system of pulleys and metal cables running to the control surfaces
of aircraft, in this system you would manually move the surfaces and...
#2
The term is referring to a system of computers and hydraulics that move the flight
surfaces, in this system the yoke has an artificial resistance.
I
would appreciate any clarification you could provide on the subject.
Thanx,
Brandon
ANSWER:
Brandon, the second answer is the correct one "fly-by-wire" is a computer
operated flight control system which senses a pilots inputs into the control column
(IE direction of movement, amount of pressure) and then converts these inputs
into appropriate movement of the flight control systems elevators, elevons, rudder
to move the aircraft i the desired direction. the level of sophistication in today's
hottest aircraft require computer control The first systen you describe is a cable
and pulley system which dates back to the wright brothers... most civilian, general
aviation aircraft, excluding sophisticated jets and turboprop aircraft utilize
this system (ie: cessna 152, 172 and most antique airplanes.)

Who to speak with about sexual misconduct.
To
whom it may concern,
Over a year ago I knew someone in the

quarters, which was shared with 1 room mate, and there was alcohol involved. I
also came to know that this person had relations that night with a married man.
I have thought about this for a while and would like to know who to contact to
voice my concerns. My reason for doing this is that this person, to my knowledge,
was employed in the area of top secret messages. I feel it is my duty to protect
myself, as well as others, from less than ethical people. I hope you understand
and can help. Anything you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I heard that there is a new area 51 is this true? If
so why is there a new "Area"? and why do they need to keep these places
so secret from the citizens of the United States. We do have a right to
know where our hard earned money is going to, also the coverup in Roswell, New
Mexico "it was a weather balloon" thats what makes me mad. If it was
a weather balloon then why wouldn't they let anyone in the area?, why the need
for the U.S. Military to take care of this "weather balloon"?, and why
couldn't they let the people see the "weather balloon"?. Why is Area
51 famous for its Top Secret status?, if they aren't hiding something then why
cant we (when i say we i mean the people of the United States) see inside of these
facilities?
If you could answer these questions it would be
greatly appriciated, if you didnt notice i also have AOL and my address is Rockwell83@aol.com

Sir,
I take the liberty to
write to you to ask you documentation about the tailless aircraft. In fact I am
student in 2nd licence at the Royal Military Academy of Belgium and I'm doing
an end-study work about those aircrafts. I'm looking for technical data and specifically
about how to control those aircrafts and what is the utility of this non-conventional
aircraft.
Because this development is recent, there is no much
literature about and many documents are classified. That's why I'm writing you...
I have found some documentation but this is not of much use because it's too literate
and contains no technical aspects.
I hope you will understand
my request. I'm looking forward to a favorable responce from you and please accept
my distinguished salutations.
Yours faith fully.

I am a civilian, Approxamantly 14
years old. I'm a big all military, Air Force, etc. fan. Me and my cousin made
a contest about a year ago to see who could get the most stuff on Spy planes like
the U-2 and the SR-71 etc. We even got tons of pics on Fighters, Bombers etc.
But most of all, Half the stuff was de-classified. Awwwww.......
But
I just have a little queston. I was surfing on the Internet and I went to this
one page and it was talking about Secret planes so I paid a little visit and this
site had none of that AREA 51 crap or UFO stuff. It was talking about new Spy
planes and secret fighters.
But I got these two pictures and
they are really cool. I hope this doesn't bring any inconvience to you to download
the pics so I took the time to just send you 2 pics of the planes. If you want
to see them all please e-mail me and I will send them, they are all small enough
to fit on a 3.5 diskette.

Hello,
Thought your web site was very
good, I love planes gennerally! Just wondering though...Being a Brit I have often
wondered about how the Mustang was deployed by the British. I know the Liberator
bomber was used a lot for anti-U-boat patrols. I don't know the types of Mustangs
the Brits used, nor for what roles, but I know it was originally designed and
built for the RAF in 112 days. Also what allied aircraft did the US use and for
what roles, where is this information stored, seems like that we only get to hear
what our prospective countries produced themselves, only rarely about Mosquito's
in US service or Spitfires (I know only one thing about the Eagle Squadron during
the Battle of Britain, that they existed). So if you know anywhere where this
will be obtained then thanks, then if not I shall search as hard as I can.
I
liked what the thoughts were about area 51, I don't and never will believe that
alien baloney. One thing that I also find very strange is that no Astronomer,
amatuer or proffesional, has ever said they've seen something that must be flown
by some alien force, and we know more of the sky, plus stare at it more, than
anyone else. Any "strange" hovering light in the sky is very likely
to be an aicraft with its landing lights on, when viewed far enough away it will
seem to hover.
Anyway, thanks again for that site, I will look
through it more and more.
With regards, from the UK,
Matthew

Hi,
My grandfather
was a Flying Tiger in WWII. He often talks about his aviator jacket that was lost
when he was shot down. I was wondering if there is any way that I might be able
to get another one. He said that it had both the Chinese flag and also the American
flag embroidered or printed on it. If you could let me know if you carry this
item, or someplace that might, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

My father was a crew member of a B-29 during the Korean

beloved B-29. I would appreciate it immensely if you would answer some or all
of my questions and would point me toward a video of B-29 exclusively or at least
informative about all aspects of the B-29.
1-Total number comprising
the B-29 and positions (gunner etc...)
2-Could the pilot operate
any of the bombers defenses and could one gunner operate more than one position.
3-How
many and caliber of the defensive weapons and how many gunner positions.
4-where
all positions pressurized throughout the bomber.
5-How were
crew members protected from the cold weather .
6-What North
Korean and Chinese air force did our fathers have to contend with and which was
the greatest danger to our bombers.
7-Did any B-29 in effect
go over past the YALU and into China's Air Space and how often was it done.

Subj: Stealth Idea
I
was just think about how stealth works on fighters/bombers (such as the F-117
and B-2), and I was thinking of how you might be able to make stealth even better.
I'm not totally sure if this will work, but you might be able to eliminate radar
signals through the use of a type of force field, or electro-magnetic field of
some sort to break up the signals as they travel toward the plane. This type of
field could eliminate any signal returned to the installation or opposing jet
that has their radar on at the time, instead of just a small amount being returned,
like present day stealth vehicles do. I hope you will take into consideration
my idea, but I don't have much evidence to back it up other than physics.

Dear Sir:
This may not be your
typical question. I am a lexicographer working on a new dictionary with a British
group. I've run up against a couple of Air Force terms that I'd greatly appreciate
your help in defining: "Wing" and "Wing Commander". For wing
I've got, "an operational unit in some nations' air forces that is larger
than a group but smaller than a division". Is this right? Can you add or
suggest anything? For wing commander, is this used in the US as well? I have it
as a British rank equivalent to a US Lt. Colonel. Is that right? Thanks in advance
for your help.

There is an active 735th AC&W association, that has
had and is currently planning reunion's. I can furnish you with contact information,
if you wish.
I am interested in the history of early radar
equipment, from the first SCR-271 at Ft. Sherman, in the Canal Zone, (October
1940) to the 1960's.
Keep up the good work! There are a few
radar types, you might consider adding, to your list. AN/CPS-1 "Snowplow"
that started out, as the MIT "MEW." The 152nd TAC control group had
Crossley C band AN/MPS-16 Height finders, in Germany, in 1961-2.
The
AN/FPS-3 was a BIG dual beam 5J26 powered search set, that was on a par with the
AN/CPS-6(*). Most were converted to AN/FPS-20's, a two
channel
2 MW klystron transmitter, with a line [antenna] feed. Mobile version was the
AN/MPS-7. The [AN/FPS-8 was the successor to the AN/CPS-5...]. The 751st AC&W
at Mt. Laguna had a '3, along with an AN/FPS-6 (s/n 17 or 34, as I recall.) An
AN/GPS-3 was added in late 1956 or early '57. The AN/FPS-7 came along after I
left, in the fall of '57.
The Mt. Laguna site is still working....for
the FAA, I think. The old '6 was updated, and in use, by a small AF et. in the
late 1980's. Its a full arctic site, a few miles from the Mexican border. The
ice buildup can be sudden and thick!
As a Unitec techrep, I
tried to keep a AN/GPS-4 working at the 734th AC&W on the Moroccan, Algiers
border in 1961-2, we had an AN/MPS-14 too.
The AN/GPS-4 was
a strange beast, converted from AN/MPS-7, with the AN/FPS-20 type line antenna
feed, but powered by a "2 MW" QK-470." Receiver was a single channel
version of a AN/FPS-20 unit. (MIL-HDBK-162B, 15 DEC. 1973.)
Was
put on orders as the C&E officer, [!] so the good Captain C&E, could rotate
to the land of the round doorknobs. This site was shut down and razed by May of
1962, according to Airman Ruff, a base fireman, who turned up at Wurtsmith AFB,
in the spring of 1963.
Have you had any contact with the Historical
Electronics Museum? They have a working SCR-584 and some SCR-270 parts, including
a lovingly restored SCR-270-D antenna.
This effort was started
by some great, retired Westinghouse folks. Its near BWI airport. Tel. 410.765.2345.

AFOSI - USAF OSI
Hello,
Could
anyone give me more insight into this agency/department(OSI - Office of Special

Cause in January 21st. a B-52 SAC Bomber crashed close
to the Base with 4 H-bombs aboard. I have many times been vandering of what happened
to you Army guys, who were out there picking up the aircraft debris from the seaice.
Even to-day 30 years after I can clearly remember your faces, when we sat talking
in my room in barracks 145. Many of you were later stationed in Vietnam, and we
lost connexion.
We had several airmen working part-time down
in the Warehouses, and I will enjoy any sign of life from you or anyone who can
give information of what really happened during operation "Crested Ice".

I am searching for WWII posters of service women. My
Dad, George Clark Bell Jr. served in the Navy from around 1940 -45. His sister
Eunice (Carol) maiden name Gaither served in the USAF (I think) at the same time.
We know that she was the sole model in one and part of a group of another. My
Aunt passed away 25 years ago in Buffalo, NY. I'm afraid that I don't have much
to go on. But any information that I could get would surely be appreciated. Thanks

POW after Pearl Harbor
My name is
June Marie (Caudill) Gratson and my father Jessie Paul Caudill served in what
was once the Army Air Corps, then switched to USAF. He was in Hawaii during the
bombing of Pearl. I believe he was stationed at Wheeler or Scofield.
I'm
trying to find out about his service, and any records I can get for my children
and for my Brothers, (Robert Anthony Caudill, former USAF E.O.D. ) and my sisters
children. This information is solely for family use, as we children are Very proud
of him. I am more than most a we shared a close relationship. My mother is ill
an I'd like to make an album up for her about him. He passed away in April 21
1968.
One of the missiles he worked on is still at Aberdeen
Proving Ground, Maryland. From my memory, I recall he had a large amount of ribbon
he wore on the left breast of his Blues, and on the right side, he wore the Missile.
He took me to see the missile he worked on, and when military friend scoffed at
his ability to know, he pointed out that there was a bullet hole in a certain
area. Upon checking this it was found, and they were amazed.
Though
he rarely talked about it. I knew he'd been a Japanese prisoner of war. He was
with the invasion of the Philippines. He escaped. When my mother saw him she saw
a man who was so emancipated, she almost failed to recognize him.
He
was with the Strategic Air Command, and I remember our time in Red Stone Arsenal,
and in Savannah Georgia, among others. He is (was ) the one who invented a wrench
used in a specific "bomb", it is known as the "J wrench".
He'd have to stay on base while working for several days at a time.
We
were stationed in Toronto Italy. I can't remember the name of the base but I know
it started with a C. This was 1960 - 1962. He retired on December 31 1962.
Please
help me find out information about his service. I understand that at one time
everything was classified, but surely, it has to have been declassified by now.
I am married to an ex- Army man, by the name ofJohn (nmi) Gratson III You can
check his record out and see that I am not a flake.
My fingerprints
are on file with Laurel Police dept. as I needed the clearance to work at John's
Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. I'm sure you can discover what I did there, although
it's not for me to say.
If this is not where I need to inquire
for the information I need, please advise me what I need to do to get it.
Thank
you for your time and consideration.

2233rd Reserve training center, 514th Troop Carrier Wing
Whatever
happened to the 2233rd Reserve training center, 514th Troop Carrier Wing. Heard
that the unit moved to Mcguire AFB in NJ but lost contact with same in the 70's.
It was located at Mitchell Air Force Base, Hempstead, New York on Long Island
but was closed in the 60's. The site is now broken up and now is part of Hofstra
University, and several private companies. Also,
The 1945th
AACS (AFCS) Squadron. Was stationed with the unit from 1957 to 1960 and was located
at Rhein Main AFB, Frankfurt A/M Germany. The base is closed and is strictly a
general airport but some USARMY Units still remain. Was the unit desolved?
Please
see attached C119 ready for take off at Mitchell Air Force Base in 1958. Destination
was Greenville S.C. for summer encampment. Thanks for your help. Ray Grohs, Lynbrook

ANSWER
Mitchel
AFB or Mitchel Field no longer exist. There are two hangers left, one of which
is a museum. There are a few small buildings near the two hangers that are under
the control of the U.S. Navy, and one of them contains a small exchange. What's
left of "Mitchel" one can throw a stone across.
The
rest of Mitchel is a large shopping mall and a college. Most of the old runways,
taxi ways, and aircraft parking areas are an auto parking area.
The
shopping mall and the college, and what's left of Mitchel, is located on the west
side of the Meadowbrook Parkway which runs north and south between the Long Island
Expressway (Interstate 495) and the Southern Parkway (Route 27) on Long Island.
Have not heard one word about any grand opening of the Museum (which has been
there for some years).
Hope the info is useful.

Enlistment Questions
I'm planning
to join the Air Force for four years of active duty. After basic training and
my job training, Where would I reside? If I have a girlfriend is it possible for
me to rent an apartment near the base so that we can stay together? Do you, USAF,
offer any help in these matters. I know about those dorm-type rooms that you offer
to your enlitees after a period of time, but I'm talking about something more
private, maybe like housing projects or any other program alike. Any information
would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

8-propelled bombers
My name is Edwin
Koevoets from Holland and I am trying to solve a problem for my uncle.
My
uncle is 67 years old and has been going through World War 2. This war is still
a big part of his life. Now he is telling everybody that he saw very big bombers
flying over the south of Holland towards Germany (during the war). The bombers
flew from west to east over the city "Maastricht" between the months
September - December 1944. Now what's his question / problem:
He
saw bombers with 8 propellors flying over. But every museum he visits, he can't
find his 8-propelled bombers. And he is absolutely certain that they existed.
Now
he heard about the internet, but not knowing how it works, so I tried to find
something about this. But me too couldn't find anything. I hope that can help
me with this question. Were there any bombers with 8 propellers during World War
2, which flew over Holland towards Germany?
If there are, is
it possible to confirm this to me, please?
And are there any
pictures available of these bombers?
I hope you can help me.
For any further questions you can mail me back.
P.S. I hope
my English is allright.
Regards,
Edwin

I
have a few questions. First of all, I'm just about finished with high school and
I was thinking of joining either the Air Force or the Army. I can't decide which
one would be better for me. Second, I don't know if I can trust my recruiter.
I mean, sometimes it seems like he doesn't really care what happens to me. Do
they get anything out of recruiting somebody? I don't want to end up with a bad
deal once I get into the service. E-mail me at PUPTMSTR4@aol.com

I am in college and will have my private pilots liscense
by the end of this month. All I have to do now is take my checkride with the FAA
guy.
I have already passed the written test. My question is
this: Can the Air Force guarantee me that if I join, they will give me a job as
a pilot? Once I'm in, I'm stuck and will have to do whatever they tell me. Right?
I am trying to find this out before I talk to a recruiter. They'll say anything
to get you to join.
If they can guarantee me that all I'll
be doing is flying, then it sounds like a pretty good deal.
In
light of their recent pilot shortage, I think it would be possible.
PS.
Any
airplane will do. I think I'm too tall to be a fighter pilot.(6'7'')

I wanted to know if you knew anything on the Airforce's Rc-135. My father (Tony)
flew in the rear of the Rc-135 in the late 1960's (which is the Boeing 707 in

papers said ). My main question is if you know anything on reuniting organizations
for my dad or any reunions for this. The plane doesn't exist to the public, but
i only ask airforce related personnel for these questions. My dad would be very
happy to atleast walk into the Rc-135 once again and remember the times with his
buddies. If you have any information regarding this, please send it to me at Agochar@bcpl.net.

Hi, I have been looking through your web site and it's
good. I don't know if you can help in anyway but I need some assisatnce in some
research I am doing.
On the 8th April 1945 two USAF Thunderbolt
aircraft on an air-sea rescue mission collided in mid-air and plunged into Fritton
Lake, Norfolk, UK. The pilots were Lt. Russell P Judd and Flight Office Louis
S Davis III.
I am trying to find out if it is possible to hear
from anyone stationed there around that time or if it would be possible to obtain
information in the way of reports, photo's etc from any other sources.
I
would appreciate it if you could help me with this i anyway or if you could reccomend
where I may be able to find out.
Thanks for your time,
