"until unleashed on the unsuspecting enemy, as was the case recently, when
the F-117 Stealth Fighter appeared from utter nonexistence to decimate Iraq's
military infrastructure." - It took a crash to bring the F-117 into the light.
I have more information on this if you would like it (news paper).

James, who was asking about the "sign-on bonus", the answer to the sign
on bonus is it ain't gonna happen. The only time the A.F. would offer an enlistment
bonus would be if they were short in a career field. Right now, and for the past
few years, they haven't had a problem getting our fine young sons and daughters
to sign their lives away. They are offering a re-enlistment bonus in some career
fields (called an AFSC), but not many of them.
If
James does sign on the dotted line I would encourage him to spend some time over
seas, USAFE in particular. Also, when he gets to his first duty station he should
he should become good friends with a Tech or Master Sgt. (a Senior Airman who
has been in for 5 years would also be a great person to talk to!), and ask him/her
as many questions about the A.F. as possible.
He
will find out that his recruiter flat out lied, but that is something that can
be over come.
Last words: James, go
USAFE, then never get assigned in the States again!
I
wouldn't trade the 7 years I spent in for anything, but it was time to get out.
I hope you enjoy it.
Please forward
this if you still have an e-mail address for James, or post it, or what ever.
Hang-overs
and Medals,
J.A. Hall (Ex-SrA.)

In
may 1952 the USAF tried to become trendy, I was a corporal at the time and it
was changed to A/2C and when I became an E4 I was called A/1C with 3 stripes,
as a result I do not display my honorable discharge with the pathetic A/1C shown
on it. I noticed years later the USAF returned Sgt. for the 3 chevron rank, when
did it return to Sgt?
from S. L. Wood at elhermano_99@yahoo.com.
A: I don't think it a matter of being trendy but rather more along the lines
of the Air Force continuously undergoing a personal identity crisis of one sort
or another ever since it became a separate branch of the military unto itself.
The
"Sgt" designation for E-4's was instituted in the very late 1960's,
but only for a brief period of time lasting into the early 1970's. It has long
since been again redesigned as Senior Airman.
In addition
to rank title designation changes, there have also been several changes in the
rank insignia, and then there's the logo vs crest vs seal changes and debate too.
Display your Honorable Discharge.
IMO it's your service that's important, and I think you'll find many thousands
of A1C's who would agree!!!

I'm
looking for what kind of airplane that my grandfather might have flown when he
was in the 327th Airosquad in the Army around 1917. My mother said that the planes
were the first planes made and that they were called "box crates." Any
info available as to what the true name might be?
